about Ken

Born in Apple Valley, California, Ken’s mother likes to tease that he arrived with a trumpet in his hand.  Music has always been in his blood.  After college, Ken joined the Kern County Fire Department and earned the rank of Captain by age 30. His fire career ended abruptly in 1985 when he was injured on duty while performing a rescue operation on I-5. Ken was literally launched when a semi traveling at approximately 70 mph in the fog struck him and the disabled auto he was aiding.  Ken returned to work upon recovery, but the extent of his injuries prevented him from fully carrying out his duties.  He was retired from the department 18 months later.

Ken returned to college and earned a Masters degree in Psychology from CSUB, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He received his MSA designation and pursued a career as a Marriage and Family Therapist for many years.

Music and the trumpet were the common thread woven throughout his life, regardless of his career path.

In 2002, Ken founded Valley Entertainment to promote live entertainment and musicians throughout the Central Valley.  He has gained a solid reputation for outstanding service from both clients and musicians.

Ken performs with a number of local bands, including Chesterfield King & the Sultans of Swing (which he founded), Sanctuary, and Mento Buru among others. He is also well known for his very entertaining solo act. With the Tim Davies Big Band, Ken has performed at the Pasadena Jazz Institute, El Tropical in Culver City and Typhoon in Santa Monica.  He has also contributed to many albums and movie soundtracks produced by other artists over the years. Always the consummate professional, Ken is a musician in demand!
